BRIEF
Lee Michaels, the ’70s musician behind “Do You Know What I Mean,” runs a boxing ring in his front yard on Venice’s oldest remaining street. Walking past one day, I was invited to host a women’s version.
APPROACH
Lee and I developed the concept together and worked side by side to make it happen. I produced the event from scratch: cast every fighter, chose who would fight whom, led everyone through the fight, made sure every fighter got paid, and stepped into the ring myself.
The event flyer was illustrated by Athena Wenzel, an artist I commissioned for the project.
RESULT
The fight became a featured segment in Welcome to My Street, a film about Lee and life on the street.
